US vows to keep striking Houthis over Red Sea attacks

This follows a major U.S. air campaign that, according to the Houthi-run health ministry, killed at least 53 people. Reuters report that the U.S. military operation, the largest in the Middle East since Donald Trump’s presidency, may continue for weeks, according to officials.

Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi responded by threatening to escalate attacks, specifically targeting U.S. ships in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, the group’s military spokesman claimed that they had launched another attack against the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, though U.S. officials reported that 11 Houthi drones were shot down and a missile landed harmlessly off Yemen’s coast. The Houthis labeled the U.S. strikes a “war crime,” and Russia called on Washington to stop its attacks.Dryad Global: Maritime industry must be vigilant amidst conflicts

Hegseth defended the U.S. response, saying it aims to protect freedom of navigation and counter Iran’s support for the Houthis. He warned that the campaign would persist until the rebels cease their assaults. The Houthis, who control much of Yemen, had recently threatened to target Israeli ships unless Israel lifted its blockade on aid entering Gaza.
